Skyview girls win in coach's debut

Swanson scored six of her team-high 14 points in the final quarter, when the Storm erased a three-point deficit and got defensive, holding the Papermakers to six points in the final eight minutes.

While her points were important in such a low-scoring game, perhaps her biggest play was an offensive rebound late in the fourth quarter. She quickly found Delaney Keser open for a 3-pointer, giving Swanson a rebound and an assist within seconds. Keser’s bucket gave the Storm a 38-33 lead with 1:35 remaining in the game.

Skyview coach Jennifer Buscher picked up her first win for the Storm, who won the past two Class 4A Greater St. Helens League titles. And she is not the only coach taking over a quality program this season.

Chuck Knight is the new coach at Camas. The Papermakers won the Class 3A District 4 tournament title last season.

Both coaches would agree they would prefer better shooting performances the rest of the season. 

Swanson was 6 of 11 for the Storm, and Kendra Preuninger led Camas with 16 points on 6 of 13 shooting, including four made 3-pointers. But the rest of the players from both teams struggled with their shooting touches.

Melissa Williams, who has signed with Eastern Washington University, had 13 rebounds for Camas. She finished with eight points, struggling against the defense of Larissa Hamilton and Swanson.
