Bi-district volleyball
The Camas volleyball clinched a berth to the Class 3A state tournament by beating Peninsula of Gig Harbor 25-12, 25-19, 25-19 on Friday at the 3A bi-district tournament in Auburn.
The Papermakers advance to play Auburn Mountainview, the host of the tournament, in a semifinal match at noon. Depending on the semifinal outcome, Camas will play for the bi-district championship or for third place at 3:30 p.m.
Stefani Sorensen had 15 kills, 11 digs and one block in the win over Peninsula.
As the 3A district champion from Southwest Washington, Camas received a bye into the quarterfinals.
Columbia River beat Bonney Lake to reach the quarterfinals, where the Chieftains lost to Capital of Olympia 25-02, 25-18, 25-19.
RIver will play Wilson of Tacoma at 10 a.m. in a loser-out match. It is the first of three loser-out matches that River will have to win to qualify for state.
Prairie finds itself in a similar situation. The Falcons beat Enumclaw in the first round 25-11, 25-02, 20-25, 25-15. But the Falcons lost to Kennedy in the quarterfinal 25-15, 25-22, 25-17.
Prairie faces 3A GSHL rival Kelso in a loser-out match at 10 a.m. The winner will face the River-Wilson winner at noon.
CLASS 4A
Union will face Skyview at 10 a.m. today, with the winner advancing to the Class 4A state tournament
Skyview, the 4A GSHL champion, opened with a tough, five-set loss to Stadium of Tacoma, 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 15-25, 15-8, in the first round. But the Storm bounced back to Tahoma 22-25, 27-25, 26-24, 25-21 to reach the fifth-place semifinal.
Union opened by beating Curtis of University Place 25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 16-25, 15-12. Sam Cahill had 19 kills, 10 digs and five blocks in that match.
But then the Titans lost to Gig Harbor 18-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-19. Cahill had 16 kills and 13 digs in that match.
