Here’s a note from the state track and field meets that shows just how busy young athletes are these days:

Kyra Davidson of Hockinson won the Class 2A girls high jump Friday, and then told reporter Paul Valencia that she was leaving immediately after the award ceremony to go play volleyball. On Saturday, Rachel McQuivey of Skyview finished second in the Class 4A girls 300 hurdles, and then did the same thing.

There probably were plenty of other athletes leaving the state meet to play volleyball as soon as their events were finished. The Emerald City Classic — a club volleyball tournament featuring about 180 teams in the 14, 16, and 18 age divisions — was taking place at the University of Washington.
