Rain delays 4A, 3A softball tourneys

Woke up at 7 a.m. in the hotel, looked outside, and pretty much gave up on the day. I saw on the WIAA’s Web site that the tournaments were in a delay and to check back at 11 a.m.

Still, I wanted to go see for myself. So I just spent about two minutes at South End Recreation Area. That’s all I needed to know that this delay will likely turn into a postponement. Even a tournament official said he doubts there will be any softball today.

Heritage coach Angie Michaelis said she was told the tournament will not start until 2 p.m. at the earliest. Heritage was among the 12 teams that were supposed to open the 4A tournament with games at 9 a.m. The WIAA will update its site at 11 a.m.

Also, no word on if the WIAA will shorten the tournament to try to get a champion in one day, should Friday be completely washed out. There is a rumor that it will remain a two-day tournament and try to go Saturday-Sunday.
