4A, 3A Softball washed out Friday

The Class 4A and 3A softball tournaments have been postponed for the day, and tournament officials are hoping to get all, or most, of the two tournaments completed Saturday.

Normally a two-day event with a total of 32 teams, the bracket now has a schedule that begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, with championship bracket play continuing throughout the day. If all goes as scheduled, finalists will play four games Saturday. The championship games are scheduled for 8 p.m.

“We are going to do our best to get it all in (Saturday),” said Mike Colbrese, the executive director of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association. “Our goal is to crown a state champion (Saturday) evening.”

Colbrese said if weather forces more delays, Plan B would be to resume the tournament Monday.

“We have some teams that cannot play on Sunday,” Colbrese said.

Unresolved is the consolation bracket, which has games listed as late as 7:30  and 9 p.m. Saturday but would still leave three rounds left to be played. Officials will make a decision Saturday regarding the consolation bracket.

Colbrese said the championship bracket will take precedence.
