Class 3A baseball update (Saturday, 2:50 p.m.)

The Columbia River Chieftains and Union Titans reached the elite eight in the Class 3A baseball tournament, and Camas is playing in its quarterfinal game right now — if the weather is cooperating in Yakima.

Leko Galusha pitched a complete game in Union’s 7-6 victory over Bishop Blanchet. The Titans are scheduled to play at 4 p.m., but their own game had about a 90-minute rain delay in Bellevue. A Columbian reporter was there for the first game but he is on the way to the state quarterfinal soccer match between top-ranked Shorecrest and No. 2 Camas. We have two friends of The Columbian who will be sending me text messages from the Union game, and I will update our twitter account with those scores as they come to me.

In Centralia, Columbia River scored in every inning, rolling to a 12-4 victory over Highline.

Skye Adams pitched a complete game. He gave up eight hits and three earned runs. He also hit a two-run home run and drove in another run.

“I was nervous. I was shaking out there,” Adams acknowledged. “I was really emotional at first. I had to calm myself down. I had to realize this is just another game, and I had to do my best out there.”

It helped, he said, to have a 2-0 lead before he even took the mound in the bottom of the first inning.

“I was happy,” Adams said. “That was huge. My job was to put zeroes up on the board as much as I could.”

Derek Dixon had a two-run single in the first inning. Christian Bannister ended the scoring with a two-run single in the seventh. Both players drove in three runs in the game.

Dixon, Adams, Bannister, David Anderson, and Trevor Cass each had two hits for the Chieftains.

Columbia River will face the winner of the Sumner vs. Mercer Island game, which is scheduled to start at 3:05 p.m. There was a big rain shower in between games, but as of now, it looks like that game will get started.
