2A softball postponed

The Washougal softball team is 0 for 3 in the postseason, and the Panthers haven’t even played a game.

For a third consecutive day, the Panthers had their district pigtail game against Aberdeen postponed by rainy weather. That game and all the games that make up the Class 2A district tournament in Chehalis have been rescheduled for today.

Washougal was supposed to play Aberdeen on Tuesday for the right to enter the double-elimination portion of the tournament, originally scheduled for Thursday. But Tuesday’s game was rained out, and rescheduled for Wednesday. Then Wednesday’s game was rained out and rescheduled for Thursday prior to the start of the double-elimination play.

But all of Thursday’s games were postpone and now the district hopes to play the entire tournament Friday at Chehalis Recreation Park.

Washougal and Aberdeen start play at 10 a.m. Friday. The first two first-round games (Hoquiam vs. R.A. Long; Woodland vs. Centralia) will start at noon, followed by Centralia vs. Mark Morris and W.F. West vs. the Washougal-Aberdeen winner at 2 p.m.

The semifinals will be played at 4 p.m. The first two loser-games will be played at 6 p.m.

Two winner-to-state/loser-out games will be played at 8 p.m. However, if one of those 8 p.m. games involves the pigtail winner, then that game will be played at a later date, because officials don’t want teams to play any more than three games in one day. If that happens, the district championship game will be played in lieu of one of those winner-to-state games.

Of course, that all depends on the weather Friday. The forecast Friday in Chehalis calls for a 50 to 70 percent chance of light rain throughout the day.
