Perfect pitching, record pitching, surviving pitching

It was a great day to be a pitcher Wednesday.

At least for three of them.

Woodland’s Emily Holt pitched a perfect game in a 1-0 victory over Washougal. She struck out 12, and she also hit the solo home run to give the Beavers the softball victory.

Meanwhile, Union ace Mariah Dawson struck out 15 in a 2-1 victory over Prairie — a game with first place on the line in the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League. Oh, and those 15 strikeouts gave her 957 in her career, which broke the state record previously held by Skyview’s Whitney Baker.

In baseball, Union’s Leko Galusha struck out 14 in a three-hitter, leading the Titans to a 6-1 win over Prairie in the survivor game of the Class 3A district tournament.

Here’s a fun tidbit of information: Dawson and Galusha went to the prom together. So between them, that’s 29 strikeouts, two important wins, one state record, and one limo.
