More changes to 3A district baseball

The Class 3A district baseball tournament’s schedule has changed yet again.

The tournament, which was pushed back a couple of days, did get one game in Wednesday. Union beat Prairie 6-1, ending the Falcons’ season. Union was to play No. 2 seed Columbia River soon after that victory, but field conditions were judged to be too sloppy to start a new game.

So instead, Union and River will play at 4 p.m. Thursday, with the winner taking on top-seed Camas at 7 p.m.

All three teams will advance to the bi-district tourney.

The Union-Prairie game on Wednesday was delayed about 40 minutes as an intense shower — with hail — moved through the area at Propstra Stadium. Players from both teams worked to get the tarp on the field. And when the rain stopped, players, umpires, staff from Hudson’s Bay, and even a teacher from Skyview worked to get the field back into playing condition for the final two innings.

As soon as the game ended, tournament officials elected to call it a day, in hopes that the field will be in better condition Thursday.
