OMSI, Regence tackle childhood obesity

In Oregon, more than 24 percent of children are overweight or obese.

In Washington, 29 percent of kids are overweight or obese.

In Clark County, about 25 percent of high school students are overweight or obese.

In an effort to support early education efforts and create healthy habits for children, OMSI and Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon have launched a new, permanent exhibit at the museum.

“Eat Well, Play Well” is a bilingual exhibit (English and Spanish) featuring interactive and fun ways to learn about the science behind food, nutrition and exercise.

Visitors will see what ingredients are in the foods they eat, learn to read nutrition labels, scan items at a mini supermarket and discover what an appropriate serving size of food looks like.

The 1,500 to 2,000-square-foot exhibit features hands on components and will be housed in OMSI’s Life Science Hall.
