Introducing, HealthBeat

It’s time for a makeover.

This blog was started about two years ago when The Columbian launched a new health portal, Live Well, on Columbian.com.

In the beginning, the blog contained posts touching on a mishmash of topics – sometimes about local events, sometimes about health technology, sometimes other random health tidbits.

I wrote most of the posts, but others contributed as well. It was a blog without an identity, without a purpose.

I’m hoping to change that with a little makeover.

Gone is the Live Well name. This blog is now named HealthBeat.

And with the new name comes a sweet new logo (Thanks to Columbian graphic designer Marsha Matta).

As for the purpose, the identity: The world we live in influences our health in some weird ways. I’m going to blog about some of them.

That means posts about odd health stories making the news around the world, crazy new food items popping up on menus, unusual health issues people are facing and interesting studies shedding light on health mysteries or habits.

I’ll also blog about “normal” health news, such as Coca-Cola joining the obesity fight and mayors trying to ban cigarettes.

I hope you’ll check out HealthBeat from time to time and leave me comments with your thoughts.

And if you come across something you think I should be blogging about, send me an email, marissa.harshman@columbian.com.

Thanks for reading,

Marissa
