CrossFit athletes lift ‘Barbells for Boobs’

CrossFit Fort Vancouver hosted a unique fundraiser for breast cancer research on Oct. 29.

CrossFit Fort Vancouver teamed up with Mammograms in Action, a nonprofit based in southern California, to host “Barbells for Boobs – Amazing Grace.”

CrossFit athletes in the Vancouver area completed a special workout called “Grace.” The workout consisted of 30 Clean & Jerks (a ground to overhead weightlifting movement) for time.

The event was open to people of all fitness levels and with various degrees of athletic ability.

The event began two years ago. But since then, it has spread to five countries and 42 U.S. states. More than 5,000 athletes have participated and raised more than $300,000.

“The passion and commitment of the CrossFit community is incredible, and I knew together we could make a difference in the breast cancer cause,” said Zionna Munoz, founder and president of Mammograms in Action.

Athletes, families and friends of the CrossFit Fort Vancouver community came together during the last weekend in Breast Cancer Awareness Month to make the event a success, organizers said.

Local coach Bridget Raach inspired everyone in attendance by completing the workout — her first action in the gym since overcoming her second battle with breast cancer.
