Sensory friendly day at the fair
In addition to the Dairy Women milkshakes, curly fries and livestock, this year’s Clark County Fair will offer a sensory friendly event for developmentally disabled children.
The Clark County Fair and Butler Amusements have teamed up with the Arc of Clark County and the Autism Society of Washington to offer the special day.
From noon to 1 p.m. on Aug. 9, six of the fair rides will operate with reduced speed, noise and lights.
Event organizers are also preparing a survey to gauge the level of interest from developmentally disabled families to support a request for more special features at next year’s fair.
Check out the Aug. 10 edition of The Columbian for my story and photos about the sensory friendly event.
