Follow-up On Paterno Column
Saturday’s column about Joe Paterno generated an e-mail from a reader who chastised me for simultaneously criticizing and praising the late coach. Which, you know, was kind of the point.
Because despite all the caterwauling of the past couple months, we still have no idea what Paterno’s legacy will be. So when I asked Curt Warner that question and he said: “That’s still to be told. The only thing you can talk about when dealing with a legacy is time. There are so many questions to be answered,” it struck a chord.
We’re so hellbent on getting instant reaction in this business that it leaves little room for honest reflection. Paterno’s legacy? At this point, we have no idea what it will be. And, for now, that’s just going to have to be good enough.
