The Loudest College Football Stadiums
Bleacher Report ranks the 50 loudest stadiums in college football, with Autzen at No. 3.
Considering that the capacity in Eugene is about 57,000, that makes it the loudest in the country per capita. Oh wait, they say that in the article. They also say this:
In 2003 former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr called it the loudest stadium he’d ever been in. A Michigan Daily columnist had this to say about that same game:
“Autzen’s 59,000 strong make the Big House collectively sound like a pathetic whimper. It’s louder than any place I’ve ever been… Autzen Stadium is where great teams go to die.”
Yes, the Big House is a pathetic whimper. I haven’t been there in more than 20 years, but I never would have imagined that 100,000 people could be that quiet. According to Bleacher Report, that has changed with renovations to the stadium.
I would rank Autzen as the loudest stadium I have ever been in, with Qwest Field a close second.
