Was This Really Necessary?

So, this play has gone viral, as some middle school football team pulls off an amusing trick play. Sure, it’s fun and everything, but is this really something we should be celebrating?

That’s nothing against the kids. Hey, they provided the Internets with a little entertainment. But what about the adults? I mean, there’s some grown-up somewhere who sat around trying to think of a way to trick a bunch of middle schoolers. That just strikes me as kind of, um, childish.

Then again, youth sports are about adult egos. Aren’t they?

Anyway, even better than the successful trick play is this one. Just proving that pulling the old “Hey, coach, this is the wrong ball” play isn’t as easy as it looks.
