Huskies And Cardinal? That's A Stretch
This one falls under the category of cognitive dissonance, as some Huskies fans have pointed out some almost-interesting facts about the Steve Sarkisian era in Seattle.
It has been mentioned that Washington is 21-20 with a 1-1 bowl record in three seasons plus three games under Sarkisian. It also has been mentioned that Stanford was 20-20 (0-1 in bowls) at the same juncture in Jim Harbaugh’s rebuilding effort. As if the two things have anything to do with each other.
Making such a comparison is kind of like saying that Oregon lost to Boise State in Chip Kelly’s first game and has gone 38-5 since then, so BYU might poised to go on a run after losing to the Broncos last week. Or maybe there’s no connection whatsoever.
Sarkisian’s record is similar to Harbaugh’s at this point in their tenures. Fair enough. But what needs to be mentioned is that Stanford is 23-3 since then, heading into tonight’s game against UW. And the smart money says that Washington won’t be able match that over the next two-plus seasons, although a win tonight would be a big step in that direction.
Still, the odds are that the Huskies won’t make any real progress until the renovated Husky Stadium has been in place long enough to impact recruiting. Maybe then Washington will ascend to the lofty status Stanford has held over the past couple seasons.
