State Basketball Tournaments

It’s time for the high school basketball state tournaments, and this year that makes for a big week around the office. Four Clark County teams have reached the Elite Eight in their given classification — Prairie and Skyview girls, Union and King’s Way boys — and Paul Valencia has a nice story about how those teams prepare.

Prairie coach Al Aldridge has some good insight, and Aldridge is worth listening to. You know, considering that he’s been to state more times than Greg Oden has had knee surgery. Aldridge has won five state titles, but some of his best coaching jobs have come with less-talented teams that have come away with trophies from the state tournament. This year, however, anything than a title would be disappointing for the Falcons.

Valencia also has a column about the King’s Way boys, who are headed to Spokane for the 1B tournament.

Best of luck to all of our local teams this weekend.
