Basketbrawl

An ugly brawl broke out Saturday late in the Xavier-Cincinnati game, and it called to mind this extraordinary Sports Illustrated story from many years ago.

In 1972, during a Big Ten game, Minnesota players and fans publicly mugged players from Ohio State (click here for video). The perpetrators included Dave Winfield — yes, the baseball Dave Winfield. I never liked him because of his cowardly role in this attack.

Anyway, Saturday’s fight didn’t come close to that on the melee scale, but I thought I would share.
