Bad News For Prairie

Talk about poor timing for a column.

Saturday I wrote a column about Prairie basketball standout Heather Corral for Sunday’s paper. Saturday night, she tore her ACL and was lost for the season.

Our desk staff got the call from Prairie coach Al Aldridge shortly after deadline, so the first edition didn’t include any note about Corral’s injury. For second edition, we put a small box on the cover noting the injury, but didn’t really have time to adjust the column.

It’s terrible news for Heather and her teammates, who won Monday’s bi-district title game without her. No doubt, the Falcons (24-0) are very, very good with or without Corral. But the odds for them winning a state title just got a lot longer.
