These Numbers Are Insane
As the Blazers prepare to play the Thunder tonight, here’s the most amazing stat about Kevin Durant:
Durant leads the league with 741 free throws this year (he also leads with 825 attempts). Not only do the 741 free throws lead the league, but that is the eighth-highest total in history, and he’s on pace to finish with the sixth-highest total of all-time. That just floors me.
Since 1967, the only players to make more free throws in a season are Michael Jordan in 1987 and Adrian Dantley in 1984.
That said, Portland typically does a good job on Durant. Through three meetings this year, he’s averaging 26 points a game but shooting 35 percent from the field.
Just think, he could spend the next decade trying to score against the flypaper defense of Nicolas Batum, hopefully with a Western Conference title on the line.
