Dickau Is A Mad Ant

Sunday’s column was about Vancouver’s Dan Dickau, who recently signed with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA Development League. Actually, it was also about his wife, Heather.

“He’s got to be the most competitive person I know,” Heather said.

This struck me as odd, considering Heather played basketball in high school for Al Aldridge. Even won a state championship in 1998. Is Dan really more competitive than Al?

“I would still say Dan, and then Al,” Heather said with a laugh. “Al filtered out his competitiveness through us. With Dan, he can go on the court and do something about it.”

By the way, the Mad Ants are named for Revolutionary War general Anthony Wayne. He is the namesake of Fort Wayne, and was known as “Mad Anthony.” Although I don’t believe he looked like this.
