Patricia Thompson at Second Story Gallery in Camas

Flocks of birds will land in Second Story Gallery in August, when Ridgefield resident Patricia Thompson displays her handcrafted fabric wall hangings with an avian theme. “Feathers and Fabric” will coincide with the downtown Camas Quilt and Fiber Arts Show Friday, August 3, and will continue through August 27 upstairs in the Camas Public Library.
In addition to the First Friday reception for the artist from 5 to 8 pm, the show is open to the public during regular library hours. The small art quilts play off color harmonies from batik borders and feature hand-pieced, dimensional bird motifs.

“Living near the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge, I am continually inspired by the birds that frequent the area,” the artist explains. They provide the creative force for her mixed-media birds forming the focal point of each wall hanging.

“Creating art has always been a part of my life,” notes the artist. Thompson has tried several art styles; a charcoal picture was published in the 2008 Clark College art and literary book The Phoenix, and a creation in wood received an award in the annual Ridgefield Art Association Show and Sale. She says she has sewn since junior high and calls it a joy to marry the art of stitching with the beauty of nature.

Second Story Gallery is upstairs in the Camas Public Library, 625 NE Fourth Avenue in Camas. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
