Memorial Weekend is prime wine time
We all have a favorite place we like to sip wine, right? Maybe it’s your patio (that’s mine), a quaint bistro, fireside at a lodge in the winter. Can I go a step further and speculate that we all have a favorite person or group we like to sip wine with. For me, that would be my husband. He is my best friend and the first person who comes to mind. We wax on about the next amazing trip we’re going to go on, places we’ve been in the past, terrific food we’ve had with wine, what brilliant yard project we’re going to complete in the coming season. Basically, we while away an hour or two accomplishing very little but it’s always a grand time.
If I had to choose someone other than Dan or add to his company, I’d have to say my mom, her husband, Ross, and my sister. I’ve had some perfect moments with my mom and my sister. We have laughed and reminisced around great bottles of wine, spent time together enjoying the Hood River wineries, Willamette Valley wineries and ever-expanding Bellingham area wineries. Then there’s the time mom, Ross, Dan & I visited Rusty Grape in Battle Ground within a couple months of them opening and co-owner, Jeremy, gave Ross a barrel taste of their Sangiovese. Ross was instantly in love…with the Sangiovese. And the saga continues. Just last weekend the four of us tasted some delightful wines at Eagle Haven Winery in Sedro Woolley. So much so that we are looking forward to returning in July to hear David Correa play his Spanish guitar as part of their summer concert series. Save a bottle of Syrah for me.
There’s something about the way wine just fills your mouth, coats your cheeks and envelops you all over like a cozy blanket as it descends down your throat. It’s meant to enhance moments, memories, meals. This weekend is one of the two big ones of the year for wine. Wineries that are ‘appointment only’ will swing open their doors. Wineries that are usually open on the weekends will have special events. My advise to you? Get out and enjoy a few. Cheers! Salud! Santé ! Prost!
