Senescu takes funding lead in Camas mayoral race

Jennifer Senescu holds the early fundraising lead in the Camas mayoral race.

Senescu, executive director of the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce, has reported 7,640.99 in cash contributions; 3,303.23 in in-kind contributions and 2,918.29 in loans, according to the state Public Disclosure Commission. Her opponent, Camas City Councilor Steve Hogan, has reported $2,766.88 in cash contributions.

The early figures leave little to project in terms of who is in a better position to win.

Because only two candidates entered the race, they will not appear on the Aug. 3 Primary Election ballot. Some of the contributions even came from the candidates themselves.

With the city looking to fill both its mayor and administrator positions after recent resignations, leadership experience promises to be a key issue. Hogan has served 16 years on the council, while Senescu has said that a business leader could best address the city’s “crisis in leadership.”
