Vancouver, Washington (Monday, March 14th 2011) 3:15pm PT — “A powerful late winter storm raced ashore yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, bringing with it strong winds across much of western Oregon and southwest Washington. At 55 mph, the Portland International Airport reported its strongest south / southwest wind gust in more than 11 years. During the mid-afternoon hours of Sunday, a strong line of showers developed in the wake of a cold front. This “squall line” of strong showers then moved into the Willamette Valley shortly after 3pm and through the Portland metro area about 3:30pm. Several locations in western Oregon and southwest Washington reported winds in excess of 55 mph. Damage was reported from Eugene, Oregon to Vancouver, Washington. Although typical for late winter and early spring, there were several factors that attributed to this being a “stronger than normal” event.”
Please see storm data / analysis in this short PowerPoint presentation. There is also a backup Adobe PDF version for those who do not have PowerPoint installed. It is recommended that the PowerPoint be viewed, due to its better screen resolution.
