Gone With The "Crown Point" Wind – Part 2
No, this is not your local “wanted” bank robber! It is actually me dressed in what is needed when we make the annual migration to experience extreme wind! Local weather lovers from all around the Portland area flock to Vista House at Crown Point, just east of Portland each winter. Did I mention the severe wind chills as well? Well, myself and some of the crazier folks (pun intended) from the Oregon Chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) did just that on Friday. It was a blast, literally! Here is a look back at that day, along with some of the news clips. It was no 100mph day up there, but fun none the less with our peak gust recorded at 87.1mph by Phil Welke. Thanks to Jeff Raetz for putting together this video compilation along with fellow AMS members and Meteorologists, Chuck Wiese, Mark Nelsen, Rian Muleback, John Rinier (and wife), my son Hunter, Rob Woodard, Matt Sloan and all the others who joined us! I am sure there will be another chance to go up there again this winter. If you have never done this before, I highly recommend it if you like extreme wind! It will take your breath away. Caution — do not wear your high heels. KGW Ch.8 reporter Keely Chalmers learned that lesson the hard way. 🙂
