Snow Arrives Across Metro Area
7:35am Thursday —
Good morning all. As forecasted, the snow arrived across the metro area overnight last night and into this morning. Nearly all of the schools in the Portland / Vancouver metro area are closed as of 6:00am. Here are the latest snowfall reports I have received as of 7:30am. If you have more to share, please post them here! Please include your location, elevation and snowfall amount.
Vancouver – 2-5″ (depending on location)
West Hills – 2″
Newberg – 2″
Hillsboro – 1 1/2″
Beaverton – 1″
Portland – 1/2″ to 1″ (depending on location)
Gresham – 1″
Looking at the latest models, satellite and radar loops, it now appears that arctic air is slowly filtering south through Seattle and will be making its way south into our area later today. At the same time enhanced shower activity will continue today. In fact, this morning’s models want to toss quite a bit of moisture up over the cold air that is in place today. As moisture laden Pacific air meets with colder dry air from the north, precipitation rates may be enhanced somewhat. Let’s wait and see how well the models do with this idea. If so, it would occur between 10am and 4pm today. All of the snow will come to an end this evening as the system slides south along the coast later today. Tonight is likely going to be pretty icy as a solid freeze across the entire area is on the way. We will also be very close to setting an all-time record coldest daytime high temperature today and overnight low records for the next two mornings. I will post another update as conditions warrant.
Stay tuned!
