Local athletes to watch at Division III

As I’ve written many times, Tailgate Talk is a fan of the little guys. That’s why we’re keeping up with Clark County athletes playing at small schools around the Northwest. Several NCAA Division III schools are preparing for their season openers on Saturday.

The cream of the crop in the Northwest is Linfield, currently ranked No. 3 in the nation. Skyview grad Ian Zarosinski is a starter on defense. The senior defensive back played in 12 games last year and had 21 tackles. Defensive end Jeremy Girod (Fort Vancouver) had 14 tackles last year as a junior. There’s a handful of local freshmen on the roster, so we’ll look to see if they see any playing time.

Fellow Northwest Conference team Whitworth has a handful of local players. Offensive lineman Tyler Gold, a Mountain View grad, appeared in six games last year as a sophomore. Freshmen Noah Schultz-Rathbun (DL, Hockinson) and Clayton Farr (DB, Ridgefield) are also on the roster.
