Sporting KC travel To New England

Some quick thoughts on the match in New England…

Weather – looks to be crappy – wind and rain with mostly rain I hear.    Not anymore – skies are clear – so expect some fast action and quick ball movement… hard to see this game looking anything like the trench battle expected in Seattle tonight.

Sporting KC – pretty good on the road this year with a very stingy .88 goals against while bringing home 1.05 goals scored… likely to be a tight defensive system for Sporting and all things considered the danger guy in defense will be Collin – as in the weak point if Fagundez or Agudelo get space.

New England – Almost as stingy as SKC – goals against at home this year a slightly higher .9411 with goals scored at home this year of 1.7 per game.

Strong points for SKC will be getting the ball and possessing it with purpose in the final third – oddly enough a strong point for the Revolution will be dispossessing the opponent of the ball in their defending third.

Somewhat of a strength for Sporting is applying pressure up high on the pitch just like Portland – being the away team I would offer Sporting will look to shut down New England as early as possible and look to strike forward with a counterattack (speed) as well as set-pieces from throw-ins.

With respect to New England – they will want to play this game tight and may rely on hunkering down to weather the Sporting storm early in order to garner a late winner given tired legs of the older and somewhat slower Sporting back-four.

Like the Portland match-up against Seattle – no predictions here – just going to enjoy the game and look for weaknesses that may have some bearing later in the playoffs.
