Thorns FC beat the Western NY Flash 2-0 in Final of the NWSL

Update,  And thats the final whistle.  PTFC has won the Final of the NWSL 2-0 despite playing a half hour with 10 players.

92nd MINUTE  GOAL   2-0 THORNS

Alex Morgan finds Christine Sinclair and plays her in 1v1 with the Flash Gk.

Sinclair sticks it in the bottom far post.  2-0 thorns.  still defending with 10 men,  only a couple minutes left.

–Wetzel has come on for Kerr in an effort to strengthen the defense for the final 10 minutes

–72nd Alex Morgan subs on for Danielle Foxhoven.  She seems to be lining up as the lone forward in a 4-4-1.  Sinclair has dropped into the left side of the midfield

—69th minute  Flash hit the crossbar on a 45+yard free kick

–Oddly enough its Tobin Heath that is being sacrificed to bring on Tina Ellertson who will play along side Buehler at the heart of the portland defense

—that may have to wait as Kat Williamson has been ejected for a second yellow.  Have to say it looked like a soft foul.

have to think Ellertson will be introduced shortly.

–Alex Morgan has been warming up and appears to be coming into the game

–48th minute  Kat Williamson fouls Abby Wambach following a long ball over the top.  Yellow card to Williamson.

–46th minute.  Angie Kerr nearly doubles the thorns lead on a shot from distance that just skips past the topside of the crossbar

–Thorns go into half time up 1-0 on a stunning free kick from Tobin Heath.

Thorns were able to punish the Flash, whose rough approach was getting attention from the referee.  First there was a series of hard fouls on Tobin Heath out near the sideline.  Hard to say for certain but the flash seem to be taking opportunities to get a swing at Tobin’s injured foot.

On that free kick, Danielle Foxhoven got leveled resulting in another free kick from which Heath would score.

—40th minute GOAL THORNS.   Tobin Heath

Tobin Heath on a free kick from about 35 yards hits a ball slightly off the outside of her boot and bends a ball over/around the wall and into the top of the goal on the near post.  Ball looked to have both power and a bit of movement to beat the keeper.

—24th minute, Nikki Marshall gets on the end of a flicked header and is in on goal.  the ball bounced and didn’t want to fall for the shot.  Eventually ball goes wide.

Immediately down the other end, Karina Leblanc makes a fantastic toe save to touch a Carli Lloyd breakaway wide of the post

21 minutes in Christine Sinclair gets on the end of a cross from Dougherty, Flash gk gets a touch and puts the ball over the bar for a corner.

game broadcast on Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports 2.

Portland has come out in what looks to be its usual flat back four

Allie Long is the holding mid but Mana Shim often drops in along side.

Angie Kerr is playing on the right wing.

Foxhoven is playing off of Sinclair and more from the right.

Tobin Heath goes where ever she chooses.  (just as I write this Tobin takes a spell on the right wing for a few minutes)
