Alex Morgan scores 2 for the US National Team

Four Portland Thorns players missed Thursday’s game because of call-ups for international duty.

Canada required Karina LeBlanc and Christine Sinclair, while the US had need of Rachel Buehler and Alex Morgan.

It wasnt the most beautiful or entertaining game of soccer, but it had its moments.

With about 20 minutes left in the game, Abby Wambach put Morgan behind the back line.  She shot from about 8 yards off the post and buried the shot with her left foot, neatly into  the bottom far post.

Less then 3 minutes later, Deja vu.  This time (future Thorn?) Tobin Heath provided the service behind the Canadian back line. Morgan raced onto a ball and finished a second shot nearly identical to her first.

Sidney Leroux added a 3rd and the US defense didn’t allow Canada a single shot on goal.
