OLYMPIA — A request for $3.8 million to upgrade the water intake at Skamania Hatchery on the North Fork of the Washougal River was not included in the state’s capitol budget.
Joe Stohr, deputy director of the Department of Fish and Wildlife, mentioned Skamania Hatchery when providing the Fish and Wildlife Commission a budget update in early January.
The capital budget does include a $500,000 reappropriation for design work.
The intake does not comply with current federal environmental standards, according to Craig Bartlett of the department’s Olympia office.
Skamania Hatchery was built under the Mitchell Act and became operational in 1956.
