Kaiser launches TV maternity app
Kaiser Permanente already has a mobile app. Now, the health care organization also has a TV app – but this one is for pregnant women.
Kaiser recently announced a partnership with Comcast to launch its new My Pregnancy maternity app.
All Kaiser members in the Northwest and Comcast employees can access the free app — but only if they have Comcast’s X1 entertainment platform.
The app includes more than 100 videos featuring Kaiser physicians and maternity care providers. The videos cover a variety of topics providers say patients ask most about, such as miscarriage facts, talking to kids about the new baby, recognizing warning signs, postpartum depression and what to avoid eating during pregnancy.
The app also includes videos of patients sharing their experiences.
The interactive app organizes information based on pregnancy milestones, from pre-conception to postpartum. App users can share videos with family members, create playlists and develop birth preferences for later discussion with their providers.
“Kaiser Permanente has always been a leader in health care, innovation and technology,” said Chris Stenzel, vice president of Kaiser business development and innovation, in the app announcement. “So it’s only fitting that we are among the first to test the immersive viewing experience of TV with the interactivity of the Web, and understand its effectiveness for engaging patients and families about their health.”
The My Pregnancy app is currently a pilot for Kaiser members and Comcast employees. In the next few months, it will be expanded to include IBM employees.
After the pilot, Kaiser and Comcast will consider broadening the offering to larger audiences.
