Granola…a great way to start your day!

We’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Starting the day off right begins with a good breakfast. One of the best ways to kick off your day right is with something that will stick with you for a while, right?

Gluten-free oats are a great way to start that day! Add in some toasty nuts, some spices, maybe a few pieces of dried fruit and you’ve got a great beginning. My favorite way to enjoy granola is on top of homemade (or store bought) yogurt. Such a tasty way to start my day.

Making your own granola is super easy. It takes only a few minutes to throw together, then a few times stirring while your oven does the baking. In addition to the amazing aroma that fills your home, being able to add whatever you like most in your own granola makes it even better. Not to mention the money you’ll save by making your own.

We love adding dried cranberries, dried apples and lots of sunflower and pumpkin seeds to ours. Tree nuts are a problem for a couple of people in my home, so most often they are left out. Another tasty addition to homemade granola is unsweetened coconut shavings, the wide ones that look like curls of white chocolate. So tasty when toasted in the oven.

After your granola cools, you can add sweet bits of white chocolate, dark chocolate or baking chips of any flavor you have on hand. Adds a bit of added sweetness to an already tasty treat.

Granola rarely lasts long in my house. It’s one of those things that I try to keep on hand. It makes a great snack, topping for yogurt or even ice cream. Using it in my apple or fruit crisp recipe adds a lot of amazing flavor to a favorite dessert. Get creative…go make some granola!
