Several citizens of Ridgefield are involved in the Assistance League of Southwest Washington, including Jeannie Lightburn, the president. The league recently held their annual JUST (for jeans, underwear, socks, tee shirts) back to school event. About 220 children in foster care, ages 10-18, showed up to find clothing in their sizes. Hoodies, shoes, pajamas and backpacks were also given away.
Liz Lane and Brighid Lane, the chairwomen for the event, and other committee members shopped for new clothing for 150 children spending $16,500. To the amazement of DSHS and the Assistance League, about 220 children showed up. Additional purchases for clothing requests will be made so all the children will have their clothing sizes met. The majority of children were from middle and high schools in Clark County. Thirty-five pairs of shoes and another 100 vouchers for shoes were distributed.
