Ridgefield will be awash in nostalgia this Saturday, September 8, when we celebrate Heritage Day at the Community Center and Davis Park. Events will run from 9am to 4 pm and they include an arts and crafts market, a petting zoo sponsored by Northwest Love All Animals, and the Farmers Market. Boy Scout Troop 310 will do demonstrations and have children’s activities and there will be a blacksmith demonstration. Historical pictures of the garden Club, FFA, and schools of old Ridgefield will be on display, as well as the history of the families that settled in this area. Old-time music will be supplied by the Fargher Lake Boys.

At 11:00 Rebecca Morris-Peck, a historical costume expert and designer, will speak, and at 12:30 there will be a social event for former students of Ridgefield’s 1828 brick school, which drew students from the outlying areas before consolidation.
At 3:00 there will be a tour of the Columbia Lancaster/Rhidian Morgan restored 1800’s barn, with photos showing the process. There is a charge of $20 for this event and a few tickets are still available. Call Allene at 360-887-3596 to reserve a space. Light refreshments will be served.
All-in-all it should be a wonderful day to learn more about the history of our favorite town.
