Michelle Swinehart grew up in Ridgefield and recently moved back to start a small vegetable farm with her husband, called Full Plate Farm. They specialize in growing winter vegetables and have a Community Supported Agriculture program where people buy a share for the winter season and receive vegetables from November through March.
Here’s what Michelle wrote about Full Plate Farm:
Full Plate Farm is located on a gentle slope among oaks and firs in Ridgefield, Washington, 18 miles North of Portland. We specialize in growing winter vegetables and believe that people should have good food, even when it’s cold and wet outside.
What is our winter Community Supported Agriculture program?
Every two weeks, November through March, you will receive freshly harvested vegetables to be picked up at drop sites around Portland and SW Washington.
What’s in the share?
The staples of the winter share are carrots, beets, kales, collards, chicories (endives, escaroles, radicchios), leeks, winter squash, garlic, and herbs. Mixed in throughout the season are potatoes, parsnips, turnips, parsley root, rutabagas, cabbages, Brussels sprouts, popcorn and other great winter vegetables.
