The Ridgefield Public Schools Foundation is pleased to announce its Fall 2012 mini grant awards. Thanks to the sponsors and participants in the Foundation’s Back to School Golf Tournament and Port of Ridgefield Commissioner’s Picnic fundraisers last August the Foundation was able to fund nine grants worth more than $3,800.
Here is a list of the grants awarded in October 2012:
Rebecca Carlisle: $500 for a new ceramics kiln controller at the high school.
Shelli Colwell: $500 for Science World subscriptions with interactive white board features at View Ridge.
Sheila Davis: $500 for a robotics kit for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program at View Ridge.
Tylor Hanking: $500 for a flight simulator for the STEM program at View Ridge.
Michelle Kurowski: $80 for DVDs of the PBS series “Art 21” for the View Ridge art program.
Judy Lightfoot: $500 for new modern science DVDs for the View Ridge science program.
Mindy Morris: $480 for a new listening center and whisper phones for the 4th grade language arts program at Union Ridge.
Justin Nelson: $300 for Junior Scholastic subscriptions for the View Ridge social studies program.
Cheryl Shaw: $500 for three sets of novels for the sixth grade language arts program at South Ridge.
Each fall and spring the Foundation solicits applications from teachers for grants up to $500 that support initiatives identified in each school’s School Improvement Plan. Since starting the mini grant program in 2010 the Foundation has awarded 28 grants worth more than $20,000.
