Did you know you can follow bird sightings at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge in real time? They are listed from day to day throughout the week. You can do this by going to the Friends’ website and then to the page, “Weekly Bird Sightings” at http://www.ridgefieldfriends.org/bird-sightings-last-week.php. This page has been part of the Friends’ website for a number of years. With close to 25 birders participating from week to week, anyone checking out the bird sighting list can be sure that the birds listed are up-to-the-minute sightings and are correct identifications.
If you would like to go a little deeper into that sightings page you can also find a link to the “Target List” page. This is the page that has a list of all birds that were seen the week before but have not been yet seen during the current week. You can also find a link to the archives page that will give you all unique birds that have been sighted between any dates that you choose. You will also find a link there to a page that gives you a list of all unique birds seen in 2011 and 2012 (to the present)
Many people print this sightings web page and bring it to the refuge with them. They do this so they will have an indication of what to expect when they begin their own bird watching.
