New War Memorial in Ridgefield
The War Memorial next to the fire station on Third Avenue in Ridgefield was originally placed there some time after World War I. After World War II the names of those who lost their lives were added and the same happened after the Viet Nam War. At least ten people’s names are missing, including one from the Spanish American War and one from the War on Terror.
Ridgefield’s American Legion Post 44 believes all of the known names should be there and all of those people who gave their lives for the freedom we enjoy deserve a more fitting memorial, so they have drafted a new design for the memorial.
The design is complete, and most of the approvals are either complete or in the works.
Post 44, at 329 Pioneer Street in Ridgefield, will be open on Friday evening. Please come by to see the 3-D model and see what the final project will look like. We will have coffee and cookies. We hope to see you this Friday at the American Legion Post.
