Report: Blazers, Camby talking extension

The Portland Trail Blazers and center Marcus Camby are reportedly close to agreeing on a two-year contract extension worth about $20 million.

The 14-year NBA veteran will become a free agent July 1.

Camby, 36, pulled down 17 rebounds and collected three blocks in Portland’s 105-100 victory over Phoenix on Sunday in Game 1 of a first round Western Conference playoff series.

The 6-foot-11, 235-pound Camby has been one of the key pieces during the Blazers’ late-season turnaround. Since trading for Camby on Feb. 18, Portland has gone 20-8.

The former NBA defensive player of the year has averaged 10.4 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks during his career.

Camby, who starred in college at Massachusetts, has filled in for injured centers Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla, who were lost to season-ending knee injuries.

If Camby re-signs with Portland, it is unlikely Przybilla — who holds a player option for 2010-11 — will return to the team.
