Brandon Roy talks of teammates old and new
Brandon Roy met with the media after Friday’s shootaround and addressed the departure of his former teammates, the acquisition of Gerald Wallace, and how he’s holding up since his return Wednesday.
On losing Joel Przybilla and Dante Cunningham: “I’ve been pretty close to Joel since I came into this league. He’s been a big part of this team, not a guy people talk about much, but he’s been a real leader even through his ups and downs. And just being with Dante for a year and a half — just his energy. If he doesn’t play he has a positive mentality, and if he plays he goes hard. We’re going to miss those guys.”
On Gerald Wallace: He’s a good player. He brings a lot of energy. He’s a slasher. He can get to the basket, give us some toughness in the paint, and he’s also a guy that can play the the 3-4 and defend a number of positions. Every time I’ve ever had to play against him I had to go ‘OK, let me get ready to battle this guy’ because he plays so hard, he’s such a tough competitor. There’s a part of me that’s excited to have him on my team.”
On his knees since the Laker game: “Yeah, they feel good. I’m just trying to build. Hopefully I can go out there and do some more tonight. We’ll be a little undermanned, but again, I’m happy to be back there playing.”
