Blazers, Verizon team up for domestic violence victims

Press release:

PORTLAND, OR – The Portland Trail Blazers and Verizon Wireless are teaming up for the seventh consecutive year to help curb domestic violence.

Fans attending the Trail Blazers game against the Utah Jazz this Wednesday, January 27th, are being encouraged to donate used wireless phones and accessories to benefit victims of domestic violence through the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program.

HopeLine drop boxes will be located at all Rose Garden main entrances. Door open at 6 p.m. Fans who donate used wireless phones will receive a 20% off voucher for the Trail Blazers Fan Shop.

Through the HopeLine program, used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any service provider are recycled or refurbished and sold. Verizon Wireless uses the proceeds to award grants and wireless phones with airtime to non-profit human services and law enforcement agencies to aid survivors of domestic violence in the Portland metro area and across the country.

In 2009, HopeLine distributed 23 grants ($64,000) and more than $100,000 worth of phones with airtime to shelters and DV Support agencies in Oregon.

Wireless phones and equipment can be donated to the HopeLine program year-round at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store across the country.
