Interview: Pritchard discusses Roy's injury, All-Star break

Portland Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard discussed the status of guard Brandon Roy’s strained right hamstring following a Saturday morning shootaround at the team’s practice facility in Tualatin, Ore.

Pritchard on Roy’s status and determining when he should return:

We want to make sure he gets back healthy and he’s effective in what he can do. And until he feels that — it ultimately comes back to him. But there are times — I say that; ‘It always comes down to players’ — but there are times when I’ve got to manage players, too. And, hey, if I feel like he needs to sit out more, I’m good with that, too.

On Roy and possibly sitting out through the NBA All-Star break

It’s definitely something we think about and we’ve talked about and we analyze. And if it comes down to that — again, we’re always going to err on the side of caution, right? So, we communicate with Brandon everyday. He’s trying, he’s doing everything he can. And with that kind of an injury, it feels like everyday it could change. He could walk in here today or tomorrow and it feels great. But until that day, we’re always going to say, ‘Let’s be careful.’
