Blazers Sent To Summer League Consolation Bracket In 88-65 Loss To Hawks
The Portland Trail Blazers lost in the second round of the tournament stage of the 2014 Las Vegas Summer League on Thursday to the Atlanta Hawks 88-65.
Adreian Payne led the Hawks with 19 points on an efficient 7-11 shooting while the Blazers went cold at the wrong time.
Bobby Brown led the Blazers with 20 points and 2 assists. CJ McCollum scored 17 points and had 5 rebounds and Will Barton had 15 points and 10 rebounds. McCollum (6-15) and Barton (4-19) had been the engine that drove Portland’s offense in their wins but struggled on Thursday going a combined 9-of-36.
The Hawks also shot a blistering 10-for-19 from the three-point line and shot 50 percent from the field overall, which might as well be 60 percent shooting by Summer League standards.
According to Ben Golliver of Blazersedge.com and Sports Illustrated, Blazers coach David Vanterpool was not pleased with the Blazers effort.
David Vanterpool said he didn’t see a “respect for the game” from Blazers in loss, used the word “arrogance” in describing approach

The Blazers were without Thomas Robinson, who injured his hand in the blowout win against Atlanta on Tuesday, and did a nice job with his athleticism against Payne in the previous game.
Atlanta’s Stephen Holt (STEVE HOLT) also helped the Hawks extend their dominance in the third period when he got hot from three in the third quarter.
The Blazers will play the Utah Jazz at 5:30 PM on Friday in the consolation bracket.
