Fernandez fined $25,000 by NBA
Portland Trail Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez has been fined $25,000 for public statements detrimental to the NBA, the league announced Thursday.
The statements concerned Fernandez’s desire to be traded or released by the Blazers.
Andy Miller, Fernandez’s agent, told The Columbian on Wednesday that the second-year guard no longer wanted to play for Portland and had no desire to stay in the NBA, after the Blazers had failed to grant a long-standing trade request.
Miller did not immediately return a message following the NBA’s announcement.
ESPN reported Thursday that the league was investigating statements made by Miller and Fernandez about a proposed training camp holdout.
Asked before the fine was issued about the reported investigation, Miller said he had not been contacted by the league.
Fernandez tweeted Thursday that he recently had a “cordial conversation” with Blazers coach Nate McMillan.
