Blazers cut ties with Gomes
The Portland Trail Blazers waived veteran forward Ryan Gomes on Tuesday.
Gomes was acquired in a draft-day trade with Minnesota, which saw Portland receive Gomes and the draft rights to Luke Babbitt in exchange for Martell Webster.
Portland attempted to trade Gomes in the days leading up to Tuesday’s decision.
Had the Blazers chosen to retain Gomes — who is set to make $4.2 million next season — the final three years of his contract would have become guaranteed.
By waiving Gomes, Portland expects to drop below the NBA’s luxury tax.
