More on Penn's unexpected firing

A source said Tuesday that news of Tom Penn, ex-Portland Trail Blazers vice president of basketball operations, being fired was making the rounds during the afternoon. Moreover, league executives called Blazer personnel, wondering why the team was firing Penn.

While news of Penn being relieved of his job was shocking to many, a source said that those within the Blazers organization were not surprised, primarily because of tensions that had long existed and surrounded Penn’s tenure in Portland.

Penn reportedly met with Blazers coach Nate McMillan following Tuesday’s practice at the team’s workout facility in Tualatin, Ore.
