Camby uncertain whether he'll play against Nuggets

Portland Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby said he is not certain whether he will be able to play Sunday against the Denver Nuggets.

Camby, who is dealing with a sprained left ankle, did not practice Saturday morning at the team’s workout facility in Tualatin, Ore.

Camby said he hopes to play versus the Nuggets. But he added that he is still feeling pain in his ankle, and that the symptoms are worse than they were when he sprained his right ankle Feb. 23 against New Jersey.

Camby sprained his left ankle Friday during practice, and he called the incident “freakish.” While attempting to pass a ball out of bounds, his foot slipped beneath a standard that supports a basketball goal.

“The last time, I was able to bounce back real quick,” Camby said. “Hopefully I can do the same thing and be back out there (Sunday.)”

Blazers coach Nate McMillan said he would listen to the advice of the team’s trainers, and then make a decision about Camby’s status.

“I don’t know,” McMillan said. “We’ll have to see where he’s at (Sunday). Today, it was too sore to run on it.”

If Camby does not play, McMillan said, veteran Juwan Howard will start in his place.
